Chirandu Institute

The Chirandu Institute documents what no one else can and licenses what the market is asking to buy.

ABOUT US

Who We Are

Africa is moving from the periphery of the global food economy to its centre. The structured intelligence that mature food economies are built on, the sensory vocabularies, the regional palate maps, the provenance records, and reference standards, has never been assembled for the continent. Food companies, investors, sensory panels, and educators need it. The product does not exist.

The Chirandu Institute is building it. Five knowledge assets, drawn from one body of field intelligence, each solving a problem a named buyer has, each generating revenue, each compounding the value of the others.

MANDATE AND POSITION

The Institute

The Institute is the reference institution for African food, flavour, and nutrition systems. It holds the knowledge, sets the standard it is authenticated against, and is engaged by the institutions that build on it. Its outputs are all published. Its authority compounds.

THE OPERATING PROTOCOL

The First-Assurance Standard

Every knowledge asset is assessed through a documented five-stage protocol before it proceeds to any downstream system. The criteria at each stage are fixed. An asset that does not meet them returns to the relevant stage with a written assessment of what is required.

Moyo Score & Certification

Five weighted dimensions. Binary decision

Sensory Analysis

Probabilistic sensory modelling for African botanicals.

Botanical Characterisation

Full taxonomic identification and chemical profiling.

Cultural Consent

Three tiers: community,
knowledge-holder, attribution

Origin Verification

Provenance corroborated against botanical records.

WHY IT MATTERS

“The Framework does not protect knowledge from being
known. It protects knowledge from being taken.

The communities within whose knowledge systems an indigenous botanical asset originates hold permanent authority over the conditions of that asset’s movement into external systems. The Cultural Sovereignty Framework gives that principle operational form through a documented three-tier consent architecture
